“The Final Sea, Dannoura.”

November 26, 2024
Kanagawa Prefecture Cultural Festival Participation Program
The Tale of the Heike Listened to by Heike Biwa|The Final Sea, Dannoura.

About this concert
This is a small concert where you can listen to Heikyoku (a recitation of the Tale of the Heike accompanied by Heike biwa) in a traditional old house in Kamakura, with some of the text translated into modern Japanese. The simple sound of the Heike biwa, the voice of the narrator, the flowers and plants that mark the end and beginning of each season, and the Enoden train that passes right by the room. The vitality of the various lives that can be felt in this place is superimposed on the vitality of the lives of the people who fought in the battle 800 years ago. The Tale of the Heike Listened to by Heike Biwa: The Final Sea, Dannoura is a “Kanagawa Cultural Program Certified” and “Kanagawa Prefecture Cultural Festival Participation Program”.

Heikyoku (Heike Monogatari) performed at Dannoura, the final sea
Dannourakassen, Touya, Senteigojyusui, Notodonosaigo, Naishidokoromiyakoiri
Due to time and composition constraints, not all of the Heikyoku will be performed. Please understand that some of the Heikyoku will only be performed depending on the story.

From MORINORI
It was last year that I came across the venue “Garden Space Kurukuru”, which is about a 10-minute walk from Kamakura Station and about a 3-minute walk from Wada-zuka Station on the Enoden Line. It’s been a year since I stepped into the garden with my Heike biwa on my back, and this year I was able to perform at various concerts. As I am still not very good at storytelling and I am still unsure about many things, I chose a story this year in which the hero shouts “Take me to the Kamakura Lord!” I was able to join (in my imagination) with everyone who fought with all their strength, regardless of their allegiance, and how much that supported my heart. I was very grateful. “The Final Sea, Dannoura” is a scene in which Tairano Tomomori encourages his soldiers before the final battle. Wada Yoshimori, who is associated with the venue, Wadaizuka, goes on a rampage, firing arrows at the Heike, and even after Senteigojyusui, Notodono pursues Yoshitsune and goes on a rampage. I want to do my best this year and use what I have learned to help me next year

Reading Course “Senteigojyusui”

November 29, 2024
Reading Course|Senteigojyusui@KamakuraKomachian

About this course
This is a reading course held at the Kamakura study hall “KamakuraKomachian”. The course is structured so that you can listen to The Tale of the Heike Listened to by Heike Biwa accompaniment while reading the story (please note that this is not a course that teaches how to sing or play the instrument). Even if you don’t understand the story or the words are difficult, that’s okay. We will proceed slowly using a hiragana text.

The last reading class of the year will be “Senteigojyusui”. As I will be talking about it in the small concert “The Final Sea, Dannoura” that I will be holding in October and November, there are parts that I cannot talk about due to the structure of the story, so I plan to take my time working on it in this reading class.

Synopsis
Tale of the Heike, Volume 11: “Senteigojyusui”
The Genji clan continue to take control of the Heike clan’s ships one after another. Tairano Tomomori senses that his end is near and begins to clean the imperial boat. Niinoama says, “Even though I am a woman, I will not fall into the hands of the enemy. I will go with the Emperor,” and she proceeds to the sea with the Antoku Emperor in her arms.

Senteigojyusui Modern Japanese translation of the full text is here.
