The synopsis of each performance.
The Tale of the Heike, Vol. 7 “Chikubusubushimamoude”
TairanoTsunemasa, a skilled poet and orchestrator, was deeply moved by the beautiful nature of Chikubu Island, which he visited on his way to war. Feeling that the island was a sacred place, he prayed to the gods and played his biwa. Then…. If you listen to the music and reflect on the movement of Tsunemasa’s heart, something unseen may appear at the end of the piece.
The Tale of the Heike, Vol. 9 “AtsumoriSaigo”
Kumagai Jiro Naozane, a warrior of the Genji clan, was defeated at the Battle of Ichinotani and followed the fleeing Heike nobles to the coast. There he encounters a young warrior wearing luxurious armor. Kumagai succeeds in capturing him, but realizes that the young warrior is about the same age as his own son. Kumagai feels compassion for him and wants to save his life, but the young warrior refuses. Kumagai grips his sword in a conflicted grip, knowing better than to fall into the hands of his allies, who are closing in behind him.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I don’t know the Tale of the Heike, can I participate?
A: Please join us. You are welcome.
Those who like the classics and the Tale of the Heike are welcome to join us, as well as those who are unfamiliar with the story. Chikubushimamoude is the story of a Heike warlord who is good at playing the biwa (Japanese lute) and visits Chikubushima to pray to the gods. Atsumorisaigo Saimei is a story about a Genji warlord who is conflicted because he has to take the life of a Heike warlord. That’s all you need to know. This is not a lecture, and we will not ask you to answer historical questions, so please don’t worry. We hope you will enjoy the narration of the Tale of the Heike with your eyes closed while sleeping, or with the accompaniment of Heike biwa accompanied by the sound of the Enoden.
Please take care of yourself as the changeable weather continues.
We look forward to seeing you at the venue.
