[about this concert]
Slightly Scary Tales of the Heike is a small concert in which the accompaniment of the Heike biwa tells the story of the mysterious tale of the Heike and the model for the ghost stories. Don’t worry, it is not scary if you listen to it in the daytime.

Synopsis of the performance
The Tale of the Heike, Vol. 4 “Nue“
During the Nipyo period, there was an incident in which Emperor Konoe was frightened at night. MinamotonoYorimasa was selected from among the warriors of both the Genji and Heishi, MinamotonoYorimasa clans to guard him, and he stood by with his retainer, Inohata. At the stroke of an ox, a black cloud rose from the Higashi-Sanjo forest and billowed over the palace, and Yorimasa saw a suspicious figure in the cloud.

Atsumorisaigo|Reading Course|The Tale of the Heike Listened to by Heike Biwa at KamakuraKomachian

[about this course].
This is a reading course held at the Kamakura learning center “KamakuraKomachian”. The format is to enjoy the story while reading the Tale of the Heike, accompanied by Heike biwa (please note that this is not a course to teach how to sing or play). Even if you don’t understand the story or the words are difficult, it’s okay. We will proceed slowly with the hiragana text.

This course is not intended to be a history lesson or a course to master reading. The emphasis is on reading stories aloud (even if you make mistakes) and on valuing your own feelings when you listen to performances. We aim to create a relaxed atmosphere in the course. We also welcome individual participants.

Synopsis of the performance
The Tale of the Heike, Vol. 9 “Atsumori Saigo”
Kumagai Jiro Naozane, a warrior of the Genji clan, was defeated at the Battle of Ichinotani and followed the fleeing Heike nobles to the coast. There he encounters a young warrior wearing luxurious armor. Kumagai succeeds in capturing him, but realizes that the young warrior is about the same age as his own son. Kumagai feels compassion for him and wants to save his life, but the young warrior refuses. Kumagai grips his sword in a conflicted grip, knowing better than to fall into the hands of his allies, who are closing in behind him.
