[about this course].
The Tale of the Heike Heike heard in Heike Biwa at Komachian, Kamakura
Heike Biwa Tales @ Kamakura Komachi An is a monthly class where participants will listen to Heike Biwa performance and storytelling after everyone recites a story they have picked up. Don’t worry if you don’t understand the story or the words seem difficult. The class will proceed slowly with explanations and hiragana text. It is a lecture, but let’s study history! It is not a course to master how to read! It is not a course to study history or to master how to read. We will read the story out loud (don’t worry if you make mistakes) and cherish the feelings you get when you hear the performance. We are aiming for such a relaxed course. This is a test event, so it is a shortened 60-minute version! There is no charge. We hope you enjoy the atmosphere. One-person participation is welcome.

【Synopsis】
The Tale of the Heike, Vol. 11 “Nasunoyoichi”
At the time of the battle of Genji and Heike, just as the sun was about to set, a small boat of the Heike clan appeared. A young woman emerged from one of the boats, holding a fan by the side of the boat and beckoning to the boat. Thereupon, the Minamoto clan’s great general, Kurohougan Yoshitsune, called for NasunoYoichi, an excellent archer, and ordered him to shoot down the fan. At first, Yoichi hesitated to take on the monumental task, but he obeyed Yoshitsune’s order and accepted the challenge. As the armies of both Minamoto and Taira watched with bated breath, Yoichi prayed to the gods and drew his bow with all the courage he could muster.

The whole story of Nasu Yoichi (Yoichi) takes about 35 to 40 minutes in my case if I recite the whole story in Heike biwa. I cannot recite the whole story at the lecture at Kamakura Komachian because I will be reciting it together with the participants, but I pick up the parts that are dynamic and I hope you will enjoy it.

The venue, KamakuraKomachian, is a 5-minute walk from the west exit of JR Yokosuka Line Kamakura Station. It is a single-story house located 8 minutes along Komachi-dori. As a place to “gather”, we support lifelong learning communities and study circle activities.

For this test course, Komachian made a nice and austere flyer announcing Kiyomori-sama. We are very happy. Thank you very much.

If you are coming for the first time, it would be good to see the access to the venue listed in the service on the Kamakura Komachi An website (I also went there while looking). I see that Komachi-dori is very crowded from Kamakura Station. It is sometimes difficult to walk depending on the time of day, so we hope you can come with plenty of time to spare. It is fun to stroll around.
