About this course
The course we will be holding at KamakuraKomachian is a reading course.
This is not a course that teaches how to sing or play the Heike biwa. Please understand. We will be using a text written in hiragana. I will start off by reading the text aloud, and then we will read it together slowly. Due to time constraints, we may not be able to do everything, but after reading the text together at each section, we will listen to a Heike biwa narration.

How to proceed
Click here to listen to the audio from the June 2024 reading course “Chikubushimamoude” (please be careful with the volume). We think it will be easier to get an idea of the course if you listen to it before applying.

The September reading course is the first part of Kisosaigo
I performed the Heikyoku “Kisosaigo” at this year’s small concert “Kiso Yoshinaka looks back”, but there wasn’t enough time for the performance. There were some parts where I read the narration (songs) out loud. If I read it at my normal speed, it would take over an hour. So I will be dividing the recitation course into two parts. The September course will be the first part, up to the point where Tomoe shows her final battle. The October course will be the second part, from the point where she and Imaizorokanehei are alone together, but there may be some slight changes. Please forgive me.

Summary of the Tale of the Heike, Volume 9 “Kisosaigo
Kiso Yoshinaka is cornered. He urges Tomoe, the female warrior who has remained loyal to him to the end, to leave the battlefield. After a struggle, Tomoe decides to part with Yoshinaka and challenges him to one last battle. After that, the only one left by Yoshinaka’s side is Imai Shiro Kanehira. A deep bond and a promise made. Kanehira, who sent Yoshinaka to Awazu no Matsubara, stood up to the enemy alone in order to buy Yoshinaka a little time before he killed himself.
