[Kamakura] Garden & Space Kurukuru

Garden & Space Kurukuru is a traditional Japanese house located a 3-minute walk from Wadazuka Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway, and a 10-minute walk from Kamakura Station. At this venue, they perform the Heike Monogatari, which depicts the fierce scenes of war and battle.

The garden is home to a diverse ecosystem of plants, and its appearance changes with the seasons. It feels as if the end and the beginning are intersecting. The Enoden train passes right next to the room, and you can feel the vibrancy of life mingling throughout the building. Here, we will superimpose the vibrancy of life of the people who fought in the battle over 800 years ago from the Tale of the Heike. I hope you will spend a moment where the present and the past intersect.

[Kamakura]KamakuraKomachian

KamakuraKomachian is a place for learning located about a 5-minute walk from Kamakura Station, behind Komachi-dori Avenue. Here, we hold recitation classes. In these classes, we all read out loud and listen to The Tale of the Heike Listened to by Heike Biwa accompaniment at each section. Please note that this is not a course that teaches how to sing or play Heike biwa.

The course will progress slowly using hiragana text. The aim is not to learn about history in depth or to master reading perfectly. It is a relaxed course where you can read the stories aloud and not worry about making mistakes, but instead focus on what you feel. Let’s all try reading out loud together.

Oiso Shigitatsuan

Shigitatsuan, a designated tangible cultural property of Ooisomachi, is located about a 7-minute walk from Oiso Station. This historic place was named after a poem by Saigyo Hoshi, a poet from the end of the Heian period, and a stone monument was erected and a small hermitage was built by Sokusetsu of Odawara in the early Edo period, with a stone Buddha statue of the Five Wisdom Buddhas being brought there. Later, Oyodo Michikaze became the first abbot and it has continued to the present day as one of the three great haikai dojos of Japan. Here, we are planning to hold a small concert where you can listen to songs from the Tale of the Heike.
