Ooisomachi Shigitatsuan

“Kokoronaki minimo awarewashirarekeri shigitatsusawano akinoyuugure,” a poem by Saigyo Hokushi, a poet of the late Heian period. Shigitatsuan, which is said to have originated from this poem, was founded in the early Edo period (1603-1868) when Shigitatsuan was built by Sosetsu of Odawara, who built a stone marker in Shigitatsuzawa and carried a stone statue of Gochi-nyorai (the five wisdom buddhas) to establish a hermitage there. It is one of the three major haikai (haikai) dojo in Japan that has continued for more than 300 years.

Contents of a small concert, The Tale of the Heike, Vol. 7 “Ichimonmiyakoochi

From “Ichimonmiyakoochi” in The Tale of the Heike, Vol. 7

「kokyouwo yakenonoharatokaerimite suemokemurino namijiwozoyuku」

Ichimonmiyakoochi Synopsis.
TairanoYorimori returns to the capital, abandoning the red marker instead of accompanying Ichimon. Trusting MinamotonoYoritomo and his mother, Ikenni, he decided to remain in the capital. With the smoky capital at their backs, the Heike clan descends to the western part of the country. Sadayoshi, a vassal of the late TairanoShigemori, did not accompany them, but wept before TairanoShigemori’s grave.

About the concert
In August, “Songs of That Person” will feature two songs from “Ichimonmiyakoochi” in which the Heike clansmen descend to the west with the smoky capital at their backs. The Heike biwa accompanies the narration.

This is a small concert of about 15 minutes, just the singing part. The doors of the anteroom open at 10:30 a.m., but Shigitatsuan opens at 9:00 a.m., so there may be some sound or voice leaks while we are preparing. Please forgive us.
