The Tale of the Heike at Komachian in Kamakura is scheduled to start in the spring of 2024. We would like to hear your feedback before the start…so we have decided to hold a test lecture in January.
The venue, Kamakura Komachi An, is a 5-minute walk from the west exit of Kamakura Station on the JR Yokosuka Line. It is a single-storied house located 8 minutes walking on Komachi-dori Street. As a “place” to connect Iori (hermitage), we support lifelong learning, community, and study circle activities.

If you are coming for the first time, it would be good to see the access to the venue listed in the service on the Kamakura Komachi An website (I also went there while looking). I see that Komachi-dori is very crowded from Kamakura Station. It is sometimes difficult to walk depending on the time of day, so we hope you can come with plenty of time to spare. It is fun to stroll around.
Now, at Heike Biwa listening to Heike Monogatari @ Kamakura Komachian, we are planning to have a monthly class where everyone will recite a story they picked up and then listen to Heike Biwa performance and narration. If you don’t understand the stories or think the words are difficult…don’t worry. The course will proceed slowly with easy explanations and hiragana text. This is a lecture, but let’s study history! It is not a course to master how to read! It is not a course to study history or master how to read. Our goal is to give you a relaxing course where you can read the story out loud (don’t worry if you make mistakes) and cherish your own feelings when you hear the performance.
This is a test course, so this is a shortened version. We hope you enjoy the atmosphere.
